Dr. Izzeldin Abuelaish is a London University- and Harvard-educated infertility specialist, born and raised in Jabalia Camp, Gaza. Living in Gaza but working in Israel, Dr. Abuelaish crosses the Israeli-Palestinian divide daily, treating patients on both sides of the conflict regardless of their ethnic origin, he sees improved health and education for women as the way forward in the Middle East.

When his three daughters were tragically killed by Israeli shells on 16 January 2009, Dr. Abuelaish didn't seek revenge or sink into hatred. Instead, he called for better and more gracious communication between all communities in Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, his response gaining him international acclaim and global humanitarian awards.
